Rothschild & Co. leads as the top financial adviser, while Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and Kirkland & Ellis excel as the top legal advisers. The rankings highlight notable shifts and achievements in M&A advisory roles.

GlobalData has announced its updated league tables for financial and legal advisers in the retail sector for the first half of 2024. These rankings show the top firms based on their performance in advising on mergers and acquisitions (M&A) deals. The tables are a valuable resource for understanding the landscape of M&A advisory services within the retail industry.

Rothschild & Co. has been recognised as the leading M&A financial adviser in the retail sector by both deal value and volume. Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and Kirkland & Ellis have excelled as the top legal advisers by value and volume, respectively. These rankings reflect their significant contributions and successes in the M&A field during H1 2024.

Rothschild & Co Tops M&A Financial Advisers

Rothschild & Co has emerged as the leading M&A financial adviser in the retail sector for the first half of 2024. The firm advised on eight deals totalling $2.8 billion, securing its top spot by both value and volume. This achievement marks a notable improvement from H1 2023, where Rothschild & Co ranked fifth in terms of deal value. The firm saw a 13.9% increase in the total value of deals compared to the previous year.

JP Morgan and Jefferies follow in second and third positions by deal value, advising on $1.9 billion and $1.3 billion worth of deals. UBS and Performance Brokerage Services are tied for second place in terms of volume, each handling six deals. PwC and Kerrigan Advisors follow closely, each managing five deals.

Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and Kirkland & Ellis Lead Legal Advisers

Simpson Thacher & Bartlett has been named the top M&A legal adviser by deal value in the retail sector for H1 2024, with $8.3 billion in advised deals. The firm’s leading position was strengthened by its involvement in a significant acquisition deal for Newland Commercial Management. Kirkland & Ellis achieved the top spot by deal volume, advising on nine deals during the same period.

 

Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison hold the second position by deal value, advising on $3.5 billion worth of transactions. Addleshaw Goddard leads by volume with six deals, while Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, Jones Day, and Cuatrecasas each managed five deals.
